HOURS OF DARKNESS; REVOLUTION OR SILENCE?

Israel Victoria

Whenever the citizens of Nigeria especially Families of the victims that lost their dear lives in the Inferno that occurred in the late hours of Thursday, the 28th of June 2018 hear the mention of the popular billionaires name 'Otedola', it won't be for familiarity but for sorrow and anguish. Also the killings in Plateau, Ibadan and Onisha respectively were enough to cripple the heart of anyone that heard the news.

Whenever someone says have you had the breaking news today, your heart begins to pounce as to what calamity has befallen us again and to what extent, the fear of losing a family or loved ones comes to your thought and all you can wish for is to disappear out of this country. We could only pray to wake up from this bad dream. Wait a minute! Did i just say pray? Interesting, when did we become so spiritual that we neglect the use of our senses.

Over the years our country has continue to degenerate into nothing with corruption, killings of its masses, hypocrisy of our government, cowardice of the citizen all clothed in Religious fanaticism. I wish i could say these serves us right but it will only be cruel because innocent lives have been cut short all in the name of playing politics. Would the government prefer its people to result to the use of violence before they could give ears to us? Would they prefer revolution because we are at the matured stage of it? Shall we begin another internal war like that of Syria? Is this the change for heaven’s sake?.

Can we blame the government alone without the citizenry having their own fair share of the blame, come 2019 the same crops of politicians will come with their sooth saying and sugar coated promises, they will appeal to our already shattered conscience by their propaganda and we would  still sell our votes(same old same old, a leopard never changes its skin).Only 2% out of the population of 180million and still counting can boast to have a Permanent Voters Card (PVCs), expecting that change will come by just praying, lamenting and calling the government all sort of abusive tittles; aren’t we the enemies of our own growth.

Countries like America, China even Japan are experiencing positive changes not because corruption doesn’t exist in those country but because they have a responsive and responsible government who are aware that they are first loyal to their people before their religion or any other sentiment. Yes you can say Faith is a good thing but it is also a personal thing. Russians are mostly free thinkers and yet they were able to put and manage resources to host the whole world for a beautiful tournament-Russia 2018,God or gods didn’t interfere with their productivity, it wasn’t even an excuse for failure ,they understood the importance of responsibility compared to our almighty government who now prefer speeches of condolences to giving speech on achievements and inventions and to top it all we are now enthroned on the seat of poverty!

My pain is that after weeks of ranting we suddenly developed amnesia, going about our businesses as if nothing even happened in the first place, probably this write up will never see the light of day but i would write anyways, perhaps it will inspire youths out there to make a move, for it is time to be involved in the business of this country and thank goodness the bill that supports the youth leadership has been passed into law, now your age is no longer a barrier but you as there’s no other place to call home and you are not going to move all your family members out of this country at the same time alas, you should be very interested in making this part of the world a better place not just for now but for generations yet to come.

I believe we the youths are the future leaders, although the system has failed us in fact we have failed ourselves but the time to make restitution for our mistakes is now, it will no longer be a issue of i don't want to die but a matter of will anywhere be safe should we keep quiet and go about hustling for just daily bread. Why not let’s copy what was done in France, the youth taking over the government.
It's indeed a black June, I'm sure it has been a long week too for everyone, too many sad news that makes you wonder if you are watching a movie or seeing film trick and that reminds me the pastor that prophesied the killer dates that there would be accidents and bloodshed; couldn't you have interceded on behalf of this country because I'm wondering what your job actually is? as a mouthpiece of God that you are I’m sure he would listen to you. I just hope that you and your likes (prophets) would help in this situation because we need your intercession now more than ever, it now goes beyond tithes and offerings.

Let me drop my pen here before i start to bore you with Nigerian issues, i never intend to write this long epistle but you know when it comes to the issues in this country even a day old baby would have something to lament about. I pray God grants us all the fortitude to bear the losses as he is the only one person who can save us now even from ourselves.
