The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Monday, February 2, 2026, marked its fourth Founder’s Day as a university, with the theme, “Mapping the Future.”
The event took place at the 500-seat capacity auditorium of the College of Agriculture and featured high-profile dignitaries, including the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya; the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji; principal officers of other universities; heads of departments; lecturers and staff; the President and executive members of the LASUSTECH Students’ Consultative Assembly (LSCA); members of the press; and students.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odusanya, presented an audio-visual documentary on the university, narrating how LASUSTECH has made significant progress within four years of attaining university status. In the documentary, he explained the institution’s “IMPACT” goals, which are designed to map the university’s future.

LASUSTECH came into being following the signing of a bill into law by the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and its subsequent approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on February 2, 2022.
Prof. Odusanya reaffirmed that “the academic ascent of LASUSTECH has been swift and sure. In just two cycles (2024 and 2025), the university presented 42 programmes, both old and new, for NUC and professional body accreditation. Staff continue to turn ideas into citations with impressive frequency, while students have proven their mettle by winning prizes in national competitions, mastering practical skills, and passing professional examinations with distinction.”
He stressed that this achievement is only the beginning. “Steadily, we are mapping the future, positioning LASUSTECH as the blueprint for science and technology education in Nigeria,” he said, adding, “This is my LASUSTECH. Own it, run with it.”
The guest speaker, Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, delivered a lecture titled “Achieving the Objectives of Universities of Science and Technology.” In her presentation, she outlined practical strategies Nigerian institutions could adopt to foster growth, development, and sustainability.

Prof. Oladiji traced the historical evolution of universities from Europe to Nigeria. She noted that Nigeria currently has 168 private, 74 federal, and 67 state universities, bringing the total to 309 institutions. According to her, approximately 10 percent of these are universities of science and technology, with LASUSTECH being one of them.
As part of the celebration, students were rewarded for outstanding academic performance. Miss Ruth Ayomide Ajayi of the College of Agriculture emerged as the Best Graduating Student for the 2024/2025 academic session with a CGPA of 4.97. She was awarded a scholarship and a cash prize of ₦75,000. Other students from various colleges and departments were also honoured across different categories.
Prof. Odusanya and Prof. Oladiji, the Vice-Chancellors of LASUSTECH and FUTA respectively, were also presented with plaques by the Chairman and executive members of the LASUSTECH Students’ Consultative Assembly (LSCA) in recognition of their leadership and contributions to advancing excellence in universities of science and technology.
