LASUSTECH Student Wins Fatima Garbati Tourism Outreach Grant

By Habeeb Ibrahim  Juliet Nwankpa-Vincent Odinakachi, a student from the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM) at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), has been honored with the prestigious Fatima Garbati Tourism Outreach Grant.  The award was presented at the 20th Akwaaba African Travel Market, the largest gathering of tourism professionals in West Africa, which took place from September 22-24, 2024, at Eko Hotels Convention Centre, Lagos. Juliet, who is a 100-level student of the department, was recognized for her academic excellence and dedication to the tourism industry. LASUSTECH Mass Communication Department Concludes 2-Day Workshop on AI and Data Journalism

The training, which commenced on Monday, September 23, 2024, took place at the Public Relations and Advertising (PRAD) Laboratory within the department. The workshop was designed to equip both students and staff with the tools necessary to produce data-driven stories and leverage AI in journalism. It also provided educators with the opportunity to enhance their expertise and better impart this knowledge to students. LASUSTECH Mass Communication Department Launches Student Advocacy Against Sexual Harassment

The announcement was made by the Head of Department, Dr. Steven Anu' Adesemoye, during a program held in the department's AG 105 (Old Kakawa) hall, focused on educating students about sexual harassment and domestic violence. This initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s policy, which has designated September as Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month. The campaign, themed "#SGB-NOT ON MY WATCH," seeks to increase awareness about victims' safety and reduce the occurrence of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the state.
