ASUP Moves To Restore Arm In LASPOTECH

Image
Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Lagos State Polytechnic Chapter have resolved to withdraw all legal issues in court towards resuscitating the union.  This was disclosed by a former scribe of the union, Comrade Abiola Lawal, at the emergency meeting of the resuscitated union at the Ikorodu Campus.  The ASUP Chairman of the Polytechnic, Akinrinlola Ibitoye, in an interview with Press Club, noted that the Union was never cancelled nor proscribed.  The Chairman explained that during a congress in November, 2017, some aggrieved members of the Union, who were reported for wrongdoings, 'ganged up and unconstitutionally had their ways.' While these 'aggrieved members had their ways', the executive arm of the Union, reached for a decision not to metamorphose the issue into anarchy, Mr. Akinrinlola added.  "An opinion poll was conducted without following due process, rather than casting a secret ballot vote, head counts were taken. "The manag...

The Menace of Drug Abuse

Image
By Kayode Ojewale It is not the drugs that make a drug addict, it’s the need to escape reality – Riley Blue (fictional character portrayed by Tuppence Middleton) Addiction begins with hope that something “out there” can instantly fill up the emptiness inside – Jean Kilbourne, a public speaker. In Nigeria, the cosmetic approach of always treating the symptoms rather than the disease has created more problems than solutions in the fight against drug abuse and addiction. The failure to deploy a sustainable holistic approach to tackling drug abuse and addiction from the source, keeps impacting our society negatively. This drug-troubled situation has remained so for long, given the deep-rooted nature of drugs and this has eaten far into the fabric of our nation today. It is therefore imperative for all concerned and well-meaning Nigerians to address this ravaging challenge in our society today by providing a lasting solution as a matter of national urgency and emerge...

MY MOTHER; MY DEMIGOD

Image
By Sammy Opeyemi   In the scratch of the day I woke up to see a hero I woke up in the hands of a demigod, Nursing me like a pregnancy That cost a couple years to get Singing without background beat Pampering me like a princess Luckily married by a poor man Weeping when I'm ill Should I even think of the nine months? When the deity nurtured me Despite the pains I caused her Should I even think of the meal-less nights? When I ate her food with mine My mother; My demigod If I get soaked by the rain My mother would rather blame the rain Which didn't stop for me to pass Which couldn't wait till I get home Instead of blaming my stupidity My mother; my demigod Apart from the creator Whose thoughts are always positive towards the hominis My mother is the only being with positive thoughts about me She understood perfectly When I innocently bit her mammary gland Oh! My demigod My prayer for you always Is long life and prosperity My mother; my de...

WAR OF THE TONGUE

Image
By Edwin Eriye Swords clashing, shields clamping With resounding base voices across the battle field, Splatters of blood All over the confinement of the battle ground. A massive blow from the opponent Leaves me staggering to the ground, Before my back touches the dirt A resounding blow I must reciprocate, But lo, the window for vengeance was shut. While I lay on the ground, I caught a glimpse of a fellow spartan Been thrown into the mud of disenchantment, On a second glimpse, I caught all fighting for their life’s Trying to avoid a blow or deal a blow. Maybe this battle has been won, But the war is still very much in view, All hopes, aspirations, mantras, blueprints Can not be trampled on by the ugly monster of war Hence, I picked up myself From the shackles and abyss of defeat, Spartans chanting their win songs Across the battle field Gives a me a daring resuscitation. With my shield I clapped my sword, Bre...
