“What triggered this was when we heard about the death of one of our lecturers couple of weeks ago. We’ve also heard about the death of some students with most them involving in one accident or the other. We discovered that this things have to stop as we cannot continue like this. That is why we come together and decide to organize a prayer walk because we are tired of losing our students and lecturers.” He said.

On his part, the Amir of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (Isolo Chapter), Sodiq Olasupo, identified the need to tackle all forms of physical and spiritual challenges as the motive behind the joint prayer session.

“There is no way you want to succeed in life without prayer. For that reason, we decided to come together to tackle any form of physical and spiritual challenges in every students life.” He said.

Meanwhile, both associations shared an unusual proximity as the church and mosque were built side by side despite their religious differences.

Speaking on this phenomenon, Olasupo revealed that both parties have been on good terms while identifying tolerance as the factor behind their co-existence.

“We don’t have any problem having a church beside a mosque as long as they can tolerate us and we can tolerate them. We have several verses of the Quran that ask us to tolerate those that are not of our own faith. So we don’t have nay problem.

“Since we have been together, there has been no record of fight between us. Personally, I and the chaplain, who happened to be the head of the fellowship, have been friends since the inception of this our administration. We are also part of those who decided to organize this prayer session together.” He said.

Similarly, Oyedun admitted that both parties had been on good terms and assistance to each other.

“We have a good relationship- particularly with the Amir. Whenever they needed our help, they call and whenever we needed their help as well, we got their side. There had been a good relationship between us that we hold meetings together and talk about how we can improve as one body.” Oyedun said.
