Speaking on the university’s commitment to the partnership, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Abiodun Denloye, said the institution would provide land for the proposed incubation hubs and involve students in innovation programmes to support the commercialisation of research. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) confirmed the development on Friday, with many students across the country sharing screenshots of credit alerts on X. In a statement, NANS National President Akinteye Babatunde welcomed the payments and assured students that all outstanding backlogs would be settled. “The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced. As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind,” he said. The scheme, which stands for Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices, was launched by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy to improve access to digital devices for learners. It has become a difficult struggle between paying high rent and enduring poor living conditions. Across First Gate, Second Gate, and Odogunyan, students are spending a significant part of their finances on rent, agent fees, and agreement charges.
